You will undertake the decontamination process and supply the Gastroenterology Unit with appropriately sterilised trays, equipment and instruments. You will also be responsible for identifying and rectifying faults and problems within the Department, in line with the Standards for the Operation of Sterile Supply Services and the Australian and New Zealand Standards 4187. It is expected that you will provide an effective and efficient external sterilising service for participating agencies. Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, Gastroenterology Unit, you will also work and interact closely with the Gastroenterology Staff and meet tight timelines for the supply of sterilised equipment. This will involve performing the decontamination, re-assembly and processing of Gastroenterology equipment, collecting contaminated instruments and equipment, and cleaning using appropriate methods. Prioritising the Department’s needs, you will ensure that all stock supplied is high level disinfected or sterile, and that all equipment remains in date. You may also participate in Quality Improvement activities, including the identification of performance standards and increased efficiencies.

 

You will need to have completed an AQF Certificate III (Sterilisation Services). You will have sound knowledge of instruments and sterilising methods, along with a good understanding of general hygiene and Infection Control Principles. With proven ability to work well within a team environment, you will be willing to provide assistance and cooperation to other staff. You will be capable of performing under limited direction, meeting set deadlines and timeframes, and maintaining strict confidentiality.
