You will be responsible to the Director of Cardiology for performing routine and more complex diagnostic tests under reducing professional direction at the Lyell McEwin Hospital. These tests will encompass Echocardiography (including transoesophageal, 3D and stress echocardiography), Stress Testing (including pharmacological stress) and Ambulatory monitoring. As part of your role, you will also interrogate and programme pacemakers, defibrillators and other implantable therapy devices. You will assist with the supervision and training of junior staff within the Department of Cardiology, and provide specialist scientific expertise and advice on methodology suited to each cardiac investigation. You will also be expected to contribute to advances in methodology and techniques, which may yield outcomes that supplement scientific knowledge and the provision of an investigative service. With state of the art facilities, the Lyell McEwin Hospital is fast becoming a major tertiary facility. You will need to hold a degree in a relevant science or health related field and have eligibility for registration as an Accredited Student Sonographer as administered by the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR) or its equivalent. If appointed at the AHP2 level, you will have registration as an Accredited Sonographer or a Graduate Diploma of Cardiac Electrophysiology. With previous broad based experience in a cardiology investigation environment, you will have the ability to grasp complex technical and scientific concepts in the cardiovascular field. Your ability to communicate effectively with patients, technical, medical and nursing staff regarding patient preparation, testing requirements and result interpretation will hold you in good stead for this role.
